ECO 280 - Industrial Organization


The course introduces key concepts of industrial organization and the determinants and effects of market structure. It examines the strategic decisions of firms regarding price, level of advertising, and mergers and acquisitions, and how these decisions affect other firms in the same supply chain. Upon completion of this course, students will be familiar with the basic types of market structure and how firms’ competitive behavior is affected by the market structure in which they operate. They will have gained insight into anti-competitive strategies of firms and understanding of the rationale of government regulations and policies designed to promote competition and protect consumers.
