MAT 110 - Mathematics for Elementary Teachers
In this course you will learn to teach elementary math for understanding rather than as a set of rules that need to be memorized. Along with various strategies, manipulatives, and games, you will also learn the progression of addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and proportional reasoning. All of this will help your future students think flexibly about numbers and help them develop number sense. Regardless of what grade you teach, you need to know what came before and what comes after so that you can fully understand the progression of each mathematical topic. This big picture view allows you as the teacher to see where your students are at on their learning journey and to be able to help them get to the next level.
