BIO 435 - Ethology


The objective of this course is to introduce students to the broad subject of ethology, the study of animal behavior. The course will examine behavior, genetics, behavioral ecology, and the evolution of behavior. Specific topics may include hormones and neurobiology, learning, sexual selection, mating systems, communication, and play. In addition to learning about the historical background and theory of the field, students will also investigate current scientific literature. Students will learn to design effective experiments to collect and analyze behavioral data. The laboratory will underscore topics introduced during the lecture.

A grade of C or better in BIO 290  
3 hours lecture, 3 hours laboratory per week. 1 semester 3 credits.
