Medical Technology, B.S. (PGS)

The B.S. in Medical Technology prepares students for careers in the health care field as clinical laboratory scientists. The program requires 96 credits toward the St. Joseph’s College curriculum (which can include transfer credit) and one year of specialized didactic and clinical training in an approved hospital program. St. Joseph’s has an agreement with New York Methodist Hospital School of Clinical Laboratory Science to provide this final year. The program at the School of Laboratory Science is accredited by the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences (NAACLS). Students who complete the program receive a B.S. from St. Joseph’s College and a Certificate from the School of Clinical Laboratory Science. Graduates are eligible for licensure in New York and may sit for the examination administered by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP). Students with prior medical training and/or non-traditional educational backgrounds would pursue their primary program in the School of Professional and Graduate Studies at St. Joseph’s College followed by one year of study at New York Methodist Hospital School of Clinical Laboratory Science.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
An applicant wishing to pursue the B.S. in Medical Technology within the School of Professional and Graduate Studies must possess a high school diploma or its equivalent, have post secondary education and training, and have acquired, through experience, the skills and knowledge appropriate to the degree. Having met the general admission requirements, the applicant must be deemed capable of completing the requirements of the School of Professional and Graduate Studies.

In order to be admitted to the New York Methodist Hospital School of Clinical laboratory science for the final year of the program, students will be required to maintain grades of C or above for the course requirements at St. Joseph’s College, and must have completed the major, liberal arts, and other requirements mandated by St. Joseph’s College and the New York Methodist Hospital School of Clinical Laboratory Science.
